About ExecRelate Data Gathering and Maintenance

Frequently Asked Questions about our Data

How do you obtain your data?

The information on companies and individuals is highly accurate as a result of our multi-faceted data maintenance strategy. We combine the latest technology gathering techniques with teams of highly-skilled analysts based in New Jersey and India. This global partnership performs nearly 5,000 adds, updates, and deletes to our content each business day.

The latest in Web-extraction techniques are utilized to gather annual SEC government data (e.g. 10K’s) on publicly held companies within three days of filing. Annual financials, board members, executives and other data are extracted and filtered through internal edits and validations before entry into our database. These same techniques are used to extract key data from non-U.S. company annual reports. Additional data is mined to research corporate family tree information.

Over 550,000 highly-focused outbound phone campaigns are conducted yearly by our call center partners and internal teams to add, delete, modify and verify existing content.

Once you obtain the data how is the data updated and refreshed?

Our strategy calls for a comprehensive update on every record in our database at least once during the calendar year. Many receive multiple touches timed to data availability. Our Content Operations team makes updates to the ExecRelate content daily and the web site is refreshed twice weekly for timely information.

Annual automated processes are used for data elements such as telephone numbers, area codes, URL’s and mailing addresses.

Extensive edits and validations at the analyst workstation level ensure errors are prevented before database entry. Data uploads from bulk processes undergo multiple checks prior to entry, and additional automated diagnostic reports scan the database for content that no longer meets timeliness requirements. Regular reports are run so updates can be made as soon as possible.

The ACT of Content Quality

ACT – Accuracy, Completeness and Timeliness.

Accuracy – Delivering accurate content requires the use of people and technology.  Technology can confirm whether data is present or not, but cannot judge right or wrong.  People can make that call but are a labor intensive and expensive solution. A balance of both solutions is the best approach for ensuring accuracy.

Completeness – The goal of an information provider is to provide comprehensive coverage of all data elements resident in their applications.  This does not mean that every available data field is complete but depends on whether the provided content meets the needs of the information consumers.  Every content provider should have internal programs in place to continuously look for gaps and close them.

Timeliness – There are few guidelines that govern this critical facet of content quality.  Depending on the category, data currentness may be minutes, as in breaking news headlines or 90 days after company year end for annual filings with the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).  Private companies are not required to file many public-facing documents and therefore the timeliness of content is based on how well the information provider succeeds in contacting them.  Successfully meeting the challenges of providing timely information depends on how well sources are being monitored for change and responding as rapidly as possible.
